smarter AI, better products?

Recently read this on X and started thinking, that’s a great question, this post is my attempt at trying to answer it.

With the evolution of GenAI, we have smarter AI and it’s helping people(developers) code better, but why aren’t the products built on these are getting smarter or better?

  1. AI is just getting started - May be I am impatient to see the changes. AI is still new, developers are not using it fully to develop better products.
  2. AI is improving products not creating new ones - May be AI is being used to make existing products better. We are not trying to make better products but improving the existing ones with AI.
  3. Developers are working less - Developers are using AI to make their lives easier, not really using it to innovate.
  4. Fewer Developers - Worried of the fact that such technologies may make jobs of developers redundant, hence fewer developers, lesser innovation?
  5. No one is interested in taking the “Moon Shots” - Let me try to fine tune features and create value rather than building something radical?
  6. Men are still at the core of innovation - Yeah AI is great, but we need bright minds to innovate, AI can surely help me build those ideas. AI is good at creating the pluggable parts - like pieces of code, while we humans are still in charge to assimilate these parts into a usable product.
