twitter and me

It was back in 2006, I joined twitter. At first it was confusing, I was not able to understand how does it work. Who is talking, who is listening, with whom is one talking? I couldn't make it out. It took me almost a week to understand how twitter works. But since then I have been an avid twitter user.

Twitter was more than a social network platform for me. I used it extensively to track events and happenings. Be it the 2014 elections, Shashi Tharoor's misfortune, evolution of Bitcoin, rise of Elon Musk and many more.

Twitter was also one of favourite channels to source real-time data. I wrote a twitter bot, couple of years ago to auto post tweets on trending topics based on sentiment analysis. But bots are not welcome on Twitter, too many people reported it as spam and it was eventually taken down. I am currently using Twitter APIs to scan for real time event spikes (a project still in the works).

Twitter was great for me as it actively fed my news junkiness.

Infact Twitter is the only social media platform that I am still active on ! Ya, I don't have much to say on Twitter, neither do I have many followers, but it's a daily ritual to browse thru it.

With the current developments, I am not sure which way Twitter is headed, but I will always be a fan of it and it will be a sad thing to see this incredible platform die.
